SETV – Street Entertainment TV
An impromptu forum hosted by a fundamentalist Christian Group on the Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade.
Muslims, Christians, Agnostics Arise
One of the first things you may notice with this forum is that no one speaking on camera except the hosts, trusts the Christian groups interpretation of the Koran. The group, although very polite, seems more intent on converting by vilifying Muslims instead of having a genuine theological discussion. This pisses the Muslims off and engenders sympathy among the mall shoppers present.
The agnostics seem to express the belief that there is something to be learned from all faiths. On the good side, the hosts, Truth Defenders, are brave to do this and although they are there to convert they conduct their agenda with calm and cordiality.
Street I am has tried 2 times since this to follow up with Christian Defenders. In spite of their willingness to conduct a polite debate in the public square so to speak, (in this case a shopping mall), our attempts to communicate with Truth Defenders as a free speech advocate (which is one of the main functions of Street I Am) and not a Christian believer has so far proved fruitless.
Angry Muslims Confront Christians. Free Expression Ensues Iru Streetiam
In the time since the posting of this video, this street public forum. has generated many comments that are available to on YouTube.
Many of these comments so far, are serious theological fears expressed by Christians, regarding the intent enshrined in the text of the Koran. Their fears seem to contradict many of the stated views, governing the current foreign policy of the President of the United States. It also seems to contradict the often contradictory and confusing views expressed by many Muslim spokesman in the media. Most of the video comments so far are from Christian believers and agnostics. The agnostics seem to believe that religions need to reinvent themselves no matter who’s religion it is. They do not want anyone attacked for a harmless belief. Ironically however, their comments a among the most vicious.
For this discussion to make a significant difference, Muslim believers and scholars of the Koran must chime in, in order to effectively challenge the often damning assertions of the Christian community. Muslims and scholars of the Koran please exercise your right to speak up, or your cause will be lost and your great monotheistic theology will ultimately be considered nothing more than a mere sham by those who value knowledge and wisdom through discussion and freedom of expression.
To all concerned, Please Be Civil when commenting. Don’t worry too much however about being insulting, worry more about not trying to be insulting simply to vent without contributing a valid point with skill and clarity. Our species evolution and the quality of the world we leave behind, hinges on discussions such as this. Respect for one another’s beliefs is key to this.
Other than that, please feel free to have a bit of fun with it as well, or what is the point of anything anyway.
